Prosource and Eco Rebel, supporters of Don’t Waste Barbados, teamed up to beautify the waste station at Oistins Bay Gardens, Christ Church. The initiative was dubbed the Daddy and Daughter Waste Warriors event and included a group of fathers and daughters who worked together on the mural painting and tree planting exercise.
Dominique Tudor, founder of Eco Rebel and an environmental ambassador for Prosource, was elated at the event’s success. She explained “we’re working with the Oistins’ vendors, as well as the daddies and daughters who came to help us paint a mural. Prosource has renovated the waste station. This is the area where the skips would be stored that the Sanitation Service Authority would come to clear. The gates were off and the skips had to be placed outside. So what was happening was a lot of private entities were coming in and illegally dumping their waste.”
Tudor pointed out that the waste would subsequently overflow into the streets, which is an area that residents and tourists frequent. “We felt it necessary to have our inaugural project here, so that we could start to build a vibrant community. We wanted to create a beautiful space to plant trees and everybody that has been a part of this has really been excited. They had a fun time.”
She hinted that the project at Bay Gardens is the first of many community-based activities that the companies intend to undertake.
